Hwang Taek-Bin

Park Ji-Hyuk
Abstract
Objective: This systematic review aimed to investigate the treatment for acquired apraxia in stroke patients.

Methods: We searched PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Scopus for papers published between 2000 and 2019. The main search terms were ¡°Apraxia¡± and ¡°training or intervention or treatment¡±. Based on the inclusion/exclusion criteria, 4 published studies were selected.

Results: The results indicated the level of quality for each study, the type of intervention, the effectiveness of
intervention, the stroke patients¡¯ recovery stage, applied tools, and dependent variables measured based on apraxia. Two types of intervention were identified. Intervention studies reported that gesture training and strategy training significantly ameliorated apraxia.

Conclusion: Through this systematic review, we were able to identify and understand the trends of intervention for
stroke patients with apraxia. This systematic review is expected to help select proper interventions and treatment
frequency and intensity and to aide assessment according to the stroke stage of the individual.
